Mater Dei School Expands Futurekids’ Real Journeys in Technology Curriculum Program
Futurekids announced today that the Mater Dei School in Topeka, Kan. has
expanded the Real Journeys in Technology curriculum to its students. Real
Journeys in Technology is built around a scope and sequence of 500 learning
objectives in 10 key technology areas, and meets or exceeds state and ISTE
NETS standards. It is a full-year's curriculum containing 35 interactive
project-based adventure-themed lessons.
“We started this cutting-edge technology curriculum as a pilot program last
year,” commented Technology Coordinator Patricia Saracyewski of Mater Dei.
“We’re thrilled to expand the program because our students really love the
program and our teachers have really bought into it. My favorite story is
when a student completed a project and said ‘this is magic.’ I responded,
no, it’s not magic, it’s programming! We’re committed to providing our
students with the technology skills they need to compete in today’s world.”
Dzana Homan, CEO of Futurekids, welcomed the expanded program with Mater

Using projects that are linked with language arts, social studies, math and
science content, Real Journeys in Technology promotes active student
learning for the 21st Century Classroom. Areas covered include operating
environments, databases, word processing, spreadsheets, graphics, Internet,
multimedia, programming, desktop publishing and applied technology.
Real Journeys in Technology utilizes such software as Kid Pix Studio Deluxe,
Print Artist Gold, and Storybook Weaver Deluxe for the K-2 levels and
Microsoft Office 2000 for 3-8 grades. Each kit contains a comprehensive
Teacher Guide, 25 Student Workbooks and a CD-ROM containing electronic
templates, samples and handouts.
