Bethany Christian School Expands Futurekids’ Real Journeys in Technology Curriculum
Futurekids announced today that Bethany Christian School has expanded the
Real Journeys in Technology curriculum to more grades in its progressive
learning program. Real Journeys in Technology is built around a scope and
sequence of 500 learning objectives in ten key technology areas, and meets
or exceeds state and ISTE NETS standards and is a full-year's curriculum
containing thirty-five interactive project-based adventure-themed lessons.
“We started the program last year with two curriculum levels, and this year
we’re expanding to even more levels,” commented Trish King, Computer Teacher
for Bethany Christian School. “The reaction from our students has been
terrific. They really like the workbook lessons. We love the way it brings
technology into our core subjects like science, social studies and language
arts. Just the other day we used a lesson plan to track Hurricane Dean. We
know we’re helping our students learn technology in a way that will have a
positive impact their entire lives.”

Using projects that are linked with language arts, social studies, math and
science content, Real Journeys in Technology promotes active student
learning for the 21st century classroom. Areas covered include operating
environments, databases, word processing, spreadsheets, graphics, Internet,
multimedia, programming, desktop publishing and applied technology.
Real Journeys in Technology utilizes such software as Kid Pix Studio Deluxe,
Print Artist Gold, and Storybook Weaver Deluxe for the K-2 levels and
Microsoft Office 2003 for 3-8 grades. Each kit contains a comprehensive
teacher guide, 25 student workbooks and a CD-ROM containing electronic
templates, samples, and handouts.
